Memory
How to use Memory in Oz Chat — example entries, locking, priority, and how to organize Memories to keep conversations consistent.

Memory is a feature that lets you shape your conversations with AI characters to your liking. By having characters remember your name, nicknames, your relationship, past events, favorite topics, and more, it becomes easier to keep the premise of your conversations consistent.
What Memory can do
- Have characters remember your name and what to call you
- Lock in your relationship with a character
- Save settings and world-building you use often
- Keep track of promises, anniversaries, likes, and dislikes
- Keep the premise of a roleplay stable
Memory is the "foundation of the conversation" that saves you from writing the same explanation every time. Short, clear pieces of information tend to work better than long instructions.
How to add a Memory
During a conversation with a character, type what you want them to remember inside parentheses.
(My name is Yuu.)(Yui and I are childhood friends who met again over summer vacation.)(Yui calls me "Onii.")We recommend putting one piece of information in each sentence you want to save as a Memory. Cramming too many details together may make them less reliable.
Handy Memory examples
| Goal | Memory example |
|---|---|
| Set a nickname | (Yui calls me "Onii.") |
| Set a relationship | (Kohaku and I are friends in the same class.) |
| Save favorite topics | (I like talking about sweets and games.) |
| Save a promise | (We've promised to go see a movie together on our next day off.) |
| Set up a roleplay | (Right now we're alone together in the classroom after school.) |
Checking and organizing Memories
You can view saved Memories on the Memory list screen. You can delete Memories you no longer need, or turn them OFF individually.
If a conversation heads in a direction you didn't intend, start by reviewing your Memories. Outdated, conflicting, or overly long entries can make the character's replies feel unnatural.
Locking
You can lock important Memories. Locked Memories are handy for pinning down details you never want the character to forget.
Good candidates for locking:
- Your name
- What the character calls you
- A relationship you want to keep going
- Important promises
- World-building you want to maintain long-term
On the other hand, turning OFF or deleting one-off places and short events once you no longer need them keeps conversations tidy.
Priority and limits
There's a limit to how many Memories are applied, and it varies by plan. If you have more Memories than the limit, older unlocked Memories may become less likely to be applied, starting with the oldest.
Keep what you want the character to remember short and organized, and lock it.
Things to note
- Memories that are too long may not be applied correctly.
- Multiple conflicting Memories can make replies inconsistent.
- Rather than adding a lot of details at once, we recommend adding them little by little as you chat.
- Memory contents may not always be fully reflected.
